Bahrain Air Celebrates its 5th Anniversary

Bahrain Air, the private national carrier in the Kingdom of Bahrain, celebrated its 5th Anniversary this year at a time of challenge and opportunity as the airline industry continues to rebuild after the turbulence of 2011.

Mr. Richard NUTTALL, CEO Bahrain Air, expressed his optimism as well as his concerns by saying “We have come a long way since 2008 despite a series of environmental challenges from Global recession to regional political turbulence. Specifically the “Arab Spring” in 2011 required us to cancel many routes causing severe losses. Traffic has recovered considerably since the beginning of 2012 and we have seen ever improving results. Unfortunately at the same time we are still recovering from the losses incurred in 2011 and we are still working to reschedule some of our debts.”

“However, on a positive note, as other airlines restructure, we see that there is a real opportunity for us to expand into markets that are key to Bahrain’s multicultural community and business sector, and are unserved by non-stop flights.”

“We are currently discussing the future with Shareholders and the Ministry of Aviation. We believe that with the appropriate traffic rights, we have a business model and growth plan that will benefit Bahrain, bring returns for investors and allow us to accelerate payments of our past dues.”

Mr. NUTTALL concluded “While we are celebrating our 5th anniversary today, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our board for their support and good will. Also, I would like to express my high appreciation to our valuable customers who have always supported us and encouraged us to move forward with better service quality and customer offerings. Also I appreciate the support and back-up the airline has received from our respected shareholders. They have understood the situation, standing behind us and providing us with their valuable aid without which we could not have survived. Finally, I will not miss to thank all the Bahrain Air staff for their continuous dedication and hard work which enabled the carrier to survive the toughest challenges and maintain its position as an airline of choice locally as well as regionally”.
